Basic Anatomy of Pelvis, Uterus and Cervix

The following is the review of the basic anatomy of the pelvis (hip bone), uterus (womb) and cervix (neck of the womb) and the surrounding structures and the baby in it.

- The bones and muscles of the pelvic that support uterus will continue to grow with the baby inside it and will open the the way during delivery time.
- Uterus that wrap the baby will continue to grow in accordance with the development of the baby in it.
- Cervix is​actually the part of the uterus, but cervix and uterus are composed of different tissues. During pregnancy, the cervix will thicken and close. Then, at the moment of birth, the contractions will pull the cervix into the uterus and thinning (exfoliation) and opening. When the cervix is​fully open (approximately 10cm), contraction that occurs will helps the baby to move from uterus to vagina or cervix.

Birthing Process from Baby Perspective

Many pregnant women would curious about how a 3 pounds baby can pass a small hole with diameter that as big as a cup. This is unbelievable, but God has blessed fetus with a soft skull. Labor Positions : The Advantage and Disadvantage

After more than 40 weeks period of pregnancy, a mother would naturally prepare for the delivery. Childbirth usually will be occur during gestational age 37 weeks until 42 weeks. There are 3 stages of delivery process. The first stage is from start of the opening of birth canal 1 cm to 10 cm. After that, you will enter second stage, where the expenditure of the baby will occur. Next is the third stage where placenta is pulled out about 15 minutes after the second stage.

First Stages of Labor
